Review: Guerlain Blanc de Perle Refreshing Hydrating Cream & Whitening Night Cream

guerlain blanc de perle face cream review

I previously reviewed the Blanc de Perle Foaming Cleanser and Lotion here, and today I’m reviewing the Refreshing Hydrating Cream (which can be used as the day cream of the range) and the Whitening Night Cream. As a recap, so far I’ve been loving both the Foaming Cleanser and the Lotion, and I continue to use those products in my daily routine. I’ve been using the Refreshing Cream and the Whitening Night Cream for over 10 weeks, and I was super excited to see results since I was so happy with the Foaming Cleanser and the Lotion.

Guerlain Blanc de Perle Refreshing Hydrating Cream

guerlain blanc de perle face cream review

The Guerlain Blanc de Perle Refreshing Hydrating Cream (C$110) is the multi-purpose day and night cream of the range. This product claims to be “enriched with new cutting-edge anti-free radical technology, allowing the skin to defend itself better against everyday aggressors (stress, pollution, etc.) and reducing the harmful effects of free radicals.”

I’ve been using it mostly as a day cream just because my skin is drier at night, but if you have normal, combination, or oily skin, you can use this as a day and night cream. This is my 2nd favourite product of the range, as the cream is super lightweight, still moisturizing, absorbs quickly and leaving no residue, and just feels really good on the skin. I use this every morning after cleansing, lotion, and serum, and before sunscreen and foundation. It sinks in almost immediately, creating a hydrated base to apply foundation on top of. The texture is more of a gel-cream than a pure cream, and it leaves my skin feeling very comfortable. It’s hydrating enough for the dead of winter, but also light enough for spring/summer. In terms of brightening properties, I haven’t really noticed any, which is a bit disappointing for a $110 product.

I really love the classy packaging though, as well as the scent, which is a nice powdery scent that’s consistent with the rest of the line, but less intense. Overall. I think it’s a good product if you are looking for a lightweight, yet still hydrating moisturizer. If you had to choose one moisturizer from this line, it would be this one. Even though I didn’t notice any brightening, I still really enjoy using it because of its texture and how it manages to leave my skin feeling comfortable.

Guerlain Blanc de Perle Whitening Night Cream

guerlain blanc de perle night cream review

The Guerlain Blanc de Perle Whitening Night Cream (C$120) is the night cream of the range. The product claims that it contains “a biological plant-based antioxidant to combat the oxidating stresses of the night which trigger melanin production. Night after night, dark spots fade and the skin, deeply hydrated and rested, glows with the intense radiance of a pearl.”

It has an interesting texture that’s like a gel-cream but very thick, gloppy, and a little bit sticky. It is very heavy duty, in that it’s a good moisturizer for night-time use if you have dry or normal skin. Combination and oily skin gals should keep their distance, or try it at a counter to see if you can handle the texture. While it is moisturizing, my biggest complaint and the reason why I would not purchase this again is that because of it’s thicker texture, it is extremely difficult to spread and massage on your face without using a lot more product than you need. I usually use almost double my normal moisturizer amount with this cream, essentially making me use this up a lot faster than with other moisturizers. At the hefty price of $120, you definitely want to see your money go a long way. The scent is also a lot stronger than the other products in the Blanc de Perle line, which could be a little irritating when you’re trying to sleep.

In terms of the brightening effects, I did see more luminosity after using this for 3-4 weeks, combined with the Pearl Drop Whitening Essence (to be reviewed soon). Regardless, overall I wouldn’t recommend the Whitening Night Cream because of how fast it takes me to use this up due to its texture. If you have to go for one moisturizer, get the Refreshing Hydrating Cream instead.
