Feature – Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Booster, Lip Booster, and Microfinishing Pressed Powder

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Booster, Lip Booster, and Microfinishing Pressed Powder review

Make Up For Ever recently expanded its Ultra HD range to include a few new products. I’ve previously reviewed the Ultra HD Foundation, the Ultra HD Stick Foundation, and the HD Powder. The new range is an extension of the Ultra HD line to include prep care and finishing products as well. The Ultra HD line was created because of the introduction of 4K videos where high definition goes to a whole new level. The new Ultra HD products include the Ultra HD Booster, the Ultra HD Lip Booster, and the Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Booster review

The Ultra HD Booster (C$51 for 12mL) is my favourite product in the range. It’s a skin serum and primer all in one. It contains hyaluronic acid, and other ingredients which will boost your skin’s hydration level by a whopping 527%. The lightweight texture is incredible, absorbing quickly into the skin and really plumping it up. It leaves my skin feeling slightly tacky which makes my foundation adhere better. I can also apply this overtop my foundation if I am feeling a bit dry. I truly love this product for its versatility and how gentle it feels on my skin.

My only qualm is that the price is pretty insane. I go through hyaluronic acid serums like there’s no tomorrow, and this one only contains 12mL. Most serums are 30mL, so if you factor that into the price / value, this serum is pretty much $127 if you were to go through a similar volume as other serums on the market.

A pro tip is that you can also use this on top of your foundation to help boost hydration, and you can also mix this with your setting powder to help your foundation adhere better to areas like your nose where there may be problems with makeup sticking.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Lip Booster review

The Ultra HD Lip Booster (C$29) is another favourite discovery. It’s a plumping lip booster that harnesses the power of hyaluronic acid to plump up the lips, and not peppermint oil used in traditional lip volumizers. While I don’t notice that my lips are fuller, per se, they are significantly more hydrated and prepped for even the longest-wearing of lipsticks. It comes in a clear shade, which is what I have, and a universal pink that is a “my lips but better” shade. You can wear the universal pink on its own, and it’s the perfect everyday petal pink. The doe foot applicator on this one is also perfect, as it is very big and fluffy and deposits quite a bit of product.

A pro tip is that you can prep your lips using this before you start applying your makeup, leave it on until you’re ready to apply your lip product!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder review

Lastly, the Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder (C$45) is an extension of the original HD Pressed Powder, but now available in three shades – 1 (Translucent) for fair to light skin, or those who wear a 200 in the Ultra HD foundation range; 2 (Banana) for medium skintones, or those who wear a 300 in the Ultra HD range; and 3 (Peach) for tan to dark shades, or those who wear a 400 in the Ultra HD foundation range.

While I normally wear a 200, I picked the shade Banana because I’ve never used banana powder before. Even though it was designed for medium skintones, it works quite well on my skin to brighten and even out my skintone. I also love that the texture is so finely milled and smooth that it smooths out all of my imperfections and blurs out my skin, creating a real-life filter effect. Keeping in mind though, that this is a finishing powder and not a setting powder, so you should use another setting powder to set your powder, and then finish with a light dusting of the Microfinishing Pressed Powder.

A pro tip that I learned from the Make Up For Ever trainer was to use a fluffy powder brush, roll it across the powder so that the outside is covered, and then slowly roll the brush across your skin to create a light veil of colour without disturbing the rest of the makeup.

Overall I’m really happy with the new Ultra HD products. My tops picks are definitely the Booster and the Lip Booster (you know I’m a skincare junkie). You can pick up these Make Up For Ever products at Sephora stores, online, and at Make Up For Ever boutiques!
