Review – LUSH Valentine’s Day 2017

LUSH Valentine's Day 2017 collection review

For Valentine’s Day this year, LUSH has introduced a number of never-before-seen new products! The good news is that most of these have a beautiful rose scent, the bad news is that this is probably one of the first times where I find the rose scent a bit too potent.

LUSH Valentine's Day 2017 Lovestuck review

The first new product this year is the Lovestruck Bubble Bar (C$8.95). Scented naturally with oils of Sicilian Lemon and Geranium, this bubble bar is smile-inducing! Of all of the products I tried from the Lush Valentine’s Day collection, this one is the most refreshing, and probably my favourite. Lush’s bubble bars are very very sudsy, so I can usually make each one last more than one bath. It was sad to break this into multiple pieces, but it really helps  it go the extra mile.

LUSH Valentine's Day 2017 Rose Bombshell review

One of the repromotes from the prior year Lush collection is the Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb (C$7.95). It contains Rosa Centifolia and Rosa Damascena, as well as Silician Lemon Oil and and Geranium Oil. I really liked the sound of this but the scent is just way too potent. While bathing in this, I felt like I was going to drown in the fragrance. Even inside the paper bag, the scent will fill an entire room, which is a bit too overwhelming. Despite the scent, I love Lush’s bath bomb formulas, and this one is one of the more hydrating ones. If you can stand the scent, I definitely recommend picking one up. The good thing is, there is no parfum / fragrance in the ingredients list, so you know you’re getting pure rose and not synthetics.

LUSH Valentine's Day 2017 Two Hearts Beating as One review

Another new product for this year is Two Hearts Beating as One Bath Melt (C$10.95). It comes in two slices which you stick together to create a 3D model-like thing. This is probably the product I like the least from this year’s collection, because the pink side of this bath melt is so pink that it stains my tub more than anything else I’ve ever used… It also stains my skin just enough that it bothers me.

The issues aside, this bath melt is perfect for keeping your skin from drying out during a hot bath. Despite it being sold as one single bath melt, each side is enough to use during separate bath sessions.

LUSH Valentine's Day 2017 Love Spell review

Lastly, I have Love Spell Massage Bar (C$8.95), which contains a heavy dose of cocoa butter and shea butter, jojoba oil, as well as rosehip syrup, aloe vera gel, carnation absolute, neroli oil, and fresh rose petal. It smells SO GOOD, not as overwhelming as the Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb. In addition to creating a beautiful massage oil, the cocoa butter and shea butter also help to moisturize my super dry skin.

Lush Valentine’s Day collection is available now online and in-store!

LUSH Valentine's Day review

Lush’s Valentine’s Day collection is ultra pink this year, just the way I like it. I’m super in love with this year’s Valentine’s Day collection, not just because of the pinkness, but also because of the variety of products. Sometimes Lush collections can be predominantly soaps, or bath products, or something, and there isn’t enough variety for everyone. This year, Lush has created something for everyone, and it’s a great way to show that special someone that you care!

LUSH Valentine's Day review

The product I’m most excited about is the Roses All The Way soap. It’s made with fresh rose infusion and rose oil, as well as glyerin, rapeseed oil, coconut oil, rose syrup, and kaolin for a deep cleanse that’s also hydrating and luxurious. The best part is that the soap is in the shape of a heart with a rose engraving! It’s the perfect gift for that rose-lover significant other, or special friend.

If you’re all about taking romantic baths with your partner, the Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar is a great addition to your bath bomb collection. Lavender, ylang ylang and neroli help to create a romantic, warm, and relaxing atmosphere, while the beautiful colours create a fun and playful environment for you and your partner to frolic in. The fun shape of this Bubble Bar can also help to create some pre-bath fun!

LUSH Valentine's Day review

The Prince Charming Shower Gel from prior years has been reformulated to be Prince Charming Shower Cream! I adore the new Shower Cream formula, it’s richer and more nourishing than the old Shower Gel formula and still retaining the same level of foamy. Apart from the richer texture, not much has changed. It still contains a blend of pomegranate, grapefruit, sandalwood, and geranium, and is also formulated with fair trade vanilla pod infusion and fair trade organic cocoa butter to hydrate the skin while you wash.

There are also two lip products for Valentine’s Day, both called The Kiss, seeing as they will prep your lips for some smooching on the day. The Kiss Lip Scrub is a sweet, sugar-based lip scrub that contains fair trade organic cocoa butter, Sicilian mandarin oil, almond essential oil, as well as some salt to help slough off any dead skin and help to keep your fresh skin baby soft. Finish off your lip treatment with a wash of The Kiss Lip Gloss, which is mostly made of fair trade shea butter, kalahari melon oil, organic jojoba oil, illipe butter, glycerin, agave syrup, Sicilian mandarin oil, and almond essential oil. It also contains a small dose of guarana seed powder to help plump up the lips.

So this Valentine’s Day, whether your partner is a bath or shower person, or she’s a lip product junkie like me, pick something up for him or her from Lush! The Lush Valentine’s Day collection is available now in store or online.

LUSH Cupid’s Love Soap and Prince Charming Shower Gel

lush valentine's day

I always look forward to LUSH’s Valentine’s Day products because I’m completely addicted to that sweet, fruity scent that LUSH usually puts out during this time of year. This year, I got to try Cupid’s Love Soap (AKA Neon Love from prior years) and Prince Charming Shower Gel. Yup, I am still addicted to that sweet, fruity scent. Cupid’s Love is a blend of passion fruit, fresh figs, bergamot, cinnamon, and rosewood to create zesty yet intense fragrance, perfect for frolicking in the bath with your significant other. It also contains glycerin, rapeseed oil, coconut oil, and soy yogurt as four of the first five ingredients, which means you’ll leave the shower (or bath, you know, after the frolicking) with beautifully soft and smooth skin.

Prince Charming Shower Gel is a blend of pomegranate, grapefruit, sandalwood, and geranium that creates a bubbly lather and a bubble of fragrance that will help to perk you up in the morning. Also, did I mention it’s a bright perky shade of pink? Yes, the Valentine’s Day products shown here are very typical girly and bright.

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy

On the flip side we have the sultry, which is the Body Shop Smoky Poppy collection. Not gonna lie, this is one of my favourite The Body Shop scents released to date – the smoky poppy is a dark fragrant floral. I have a really hard time describing what exactly it smells like, but it’s kind of a floral but blended with darker musks or even incense. You got to try this out in stores because it is very addicting to sniff. The scent is also pretty unisex, so you can finally buy a fragranced shower gel that your man will enjoy using but won’t be embarassed about it even though it’s technically still floral.

The Smoky Poppy Shower Gel… is black. It is literally tinted black, something I’ve never seen before, but is super cool. As with all The Body Shop Shower Gels, it lathers up nicely, cleans well, and leaves a subtle lingering scent. It’s a classic formula, and you can’t go wrong by getting it in this scent. The Smoky Poppy Body Butter is one of the best body butter formulas I’ve used from the Body Shop, and in general in my body butter usage history. It’s rich yet not greasy or heavy, absorbs quickly, ultra moisturizing, and leaves just a subtle lingering scent that dissipates after 1-2 hours.

body shop lip cheek velvet universal shade review

Lastly, the coolest item of them all, the Lip & Cheek Velvet Universal Shade is a black-tinted lip and cheek stain that will give you a custom colour based on the unique pH balance of your skin. In reality, that’s kinda true but you usually end up with a dark, plummy stain which is great for the fall season.

Both of these collections are available for a limited time only, so if anything peaks your interest, you should go out and take a look naaaao!
