Review – THE FACE SHOP Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Toner, Daily Repair Moisturizer, and Daily Repair Ato Salt Cream

THE FACE SHOP Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Toner, Daily Repair Moisturizer, and Daily Repair Ato Salt Cream review

I was pleasantly surprised when I received the cutest press kit in the mail, thanks to Dr. Belmeur. Dr. Belmeur is a new line of skincare created by THE FACE SHOP that uses mild, plant-based formulations. It has two lines, designed specifically for dry, sensitive skin, and oily, problematic skin. This is THE FACE SHOP’s cosmeceutical line, which combines the brand’s skincare experience with science and medicine. I received three products from the Dr. Belmeur brand to try from its Daily Repair Line – the Daily Repair Toner, the Daily Repair Moisturizer, and its best seller, the Daily Repair Ato Salt Cream.

The Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Line was created to tacke dry, sensitive, and easily damaged skin. Daily Repair Foam Cleanser, Daily Repair Toner, and Daily Repair Moisturizer form the basic routine, which helps to strengthen the skin’s barrier to aid skin in generating a healthy, hydrated complexion. All of the products are made in Korea.

THE FACE SHOP Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Toner, Daily Repair Moisturizer, and Daily Repair Ato Salt Cream review

The Daily Repair Toner (C$28 for 200mL) is used on dry skin after cleansing. It provides moisture deep within the skin’s surface, and helps to relief sensitivity and dryness.

I really love this toner, it’s very hydrating and leaves my skin feeling soft, replenished, and plump. It has a light fragrance that’s actually pretty refreshing. I apply this on cleansed, dry skin with a cotton pad, and in addition to being hydrating on its own, I feel like it helps improve the absorption of the other products I use. I also find it to help reduce my sensitivity. For a mid to high end brand, the price point is also very reasonable for the size. Overall it’s a winner.

The Daily Repair Moisturizer (C$32 for 120mL) is a basic moisturizer that was created to calm sensitive skin, and also to serve as a barrier to protect skin damaged by external environmental aggressors. It contains natural oil ingredients derived from olive leaves. The first thing I noticed is that the value on this moisturizer is amazing. You essentially get 2.4x the volume of a normal moisturizer for a very affordable price. For a basic moisturizer, it’s pretty amazing.

While it feels really fluid and lightweight, the Daily Repair Moisturizer deeply hydrates my skin and also leaves it feeling soothed and less sensitive. My skin feels full of water, if that makes sense. In just a few short days, my skin is significantly less red. This is also a great basic moisturizer for men as they can use it after shaving to relieve razor burn. I’m surprising myself when I say that between this and the Belif Moisturizing Bomb, I actually prefer the Daily Repair Moisturizer because it does not feel so silicone-y.

The Daily Repair Ato Salt Cream (C$42 for 80mL) is one of the best-sellers in the Dr. Belmeur brand. It’s a face cream that was designed specifically for those suffering from atopic eczema. It cotnains 8% dead sea salt, providing deep skin moisture as well as itch relief. It has a gel-cream type texture that spreads easily, absorbs quickly, and leaves a protective barrier on the skin that isn’t greasy or heavy.

My boyfriend has eczema and very dry skin and he’s not the best at applying moisturizers on a daily basis, but this does help to provide temporary relief against discomfort. Normally his dry spots will flake and itch throughout the day, he says if he applies this cream regularly, it eradicates the flaking and also relieves the itching. He says he likes this even better than the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream for treating his eczema. Even though it is slightly on the pricier side compared to the Daily Repair Moisturizer, the value is still pretty incredible as most moisturizers come in 50, and at most 60mL sizes. This one comes in a 80mL size.

All three products have been really nice surprises in terms of how they’ve worked on my skin, and also the price for the value. Both my boyfriend and I can enjoy this line together, which is great for when we’re travelling and are short on suitcase space (or when we’re lazy haha). I would definitely recommend checking out the Dr. Belmeur line at THE FACE SHOP stores.

In addition to these three products in the Daily Repair line, there is also the Daily Repair Cleanser (C$17), the Daily Repair Soothing Gauze Sheet Mask (C$6), Daily Repair Cleansing Water (C$25), under skincare, as well as base makeup products Daily Repair Calamine Tone-up Cushion (C$29) and Daily Blemish Balm Cushion (C$29).

The second line under the Dr. Belmeur brand is for those with oily, congested, and acne-prone skin. The Clarifying Line contains a Clarifying Toner (C$28), Clarifying Moisturizer (C$32) and Clarifying Spot Calming Ampoule (C$35), which is a BHA spot treatment.

Dr. Belmeur will be available at THE FACE SHOP stores across Canada and online at starting May 1, 2017.

New skincare innovations featuring The Face Shop – White Ginseng Collagen Pearl Capsule Cream and Nokyong Collagen Contour Life Capsule Cream

The Face Shop White Ginseng Collagen Pearl Capsule Cream and Nokyong Collagen Contour Life Capsule Cream

The Face Shop is one of the most prominent Korean skincare brands available in Canada, available at over 30 retail outlets across the country. Did you know that The Face Shop introduces approximately 30 new products each month, either to replace older formulas or as completely new innovations? For March, The Face Shop is releasing a new range of skincare – the Capsule Cream.

The Capsule Creams are one of the coolest new skincare innovations I’ve seen in a very long time. The gist is that you have skincare active ingredients encapsulated in a pearl, suspended in a clear gel. You take 3-4 pearls for your face if you’re using it as your moisturizer, or just 1-2 pearls to mix with your existing moisturizer to create a luminous finish. Simply crush the pearls in your palms and then apply on your skin. Because the active ingredients are encapsulated, they won’t lose efficacy or oxidize once exposed to oxygen, and will be more effective over an extended period of time.

The Face Shop White Ginseng Collagen Pearl Capsule Cream and Nokyong Collagen Contour Life Capsule Cream

My first impression was that this cream is extremely luxurious. The packaging is similar to something that is priced at 2-3x the price of this cream. The jar is heavyweight, and comes with a convenient plastic spatula for scooping out pearls. It comes in a very nice paper box, with a plastic tray to keep neatly house the cream with the plastic spatula. I plan on keeping the jar after finishing up the cream – it makes for a great jewelry or trinket organizer!

The Face Shop White Ginseng Collagen Pearl Capsule Cream

The Face Shop White Ginseng Collagen Pearl Capsule Cream (C$75) is a hydrating formula that contains real pearl powder to brighten the skin and lighten blemish scars. The pearl ingredients also help to calm, nourish, and smooth the skin. The texture is a lightweight gel-cream that’s packs a punch, heightening the hydrating properties of any cream I’m using without weighting my skin down. It’s not the most moisturizing on its own, so I prefer using this either layered on top of another moisturizer, or mixed with my current cream. If you have normal or combination skin, though, this would be perfect for you if you’re looking for a lightweight, perfecting moisturizer.

I was really looking forward to this version because I’ve heard a lot about the benefits of pearl powder growing up (hello Chinese heritage!), but this cream is extremely glittery that leaves it almost unusable on its own. Even when mixed into my other moisturizers, I still get a lot of shimmery bits on my face that doesn’t dissipate (it’s unlike the products in the Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold Firming Line that contain gold but dissolves once applied on the face). What I do like using this for is underneath my foundation to create a more glowy complexion.

The Face Shop Nokyong Collagen Contour Lift Gold Capsule Cream
The Face Shop Nokyong Collagen Contour Lift Gold Capsule Cream (C$75) is an anti-aging formula that specializes in lifting the different parts of the face that shows aging the fastest – forehead, between the eyes, eye area, laugh lines, lips, neck, and facial contour. It contains Nokyong collagen and golden silk derived from silkworms to treat and care for lines and wrinkles.

Of the two Capsule Creams, I prefer this one. It is significantly less glittery than the other cream, and I find that I can use this on its own without a foundation on top to mask the shimmer. It’s also slightly more moisturizing than the White Ginseng Collagen Pearl, so I can use this on its own or with a hydrating serum. In terms of lifting effect, I’m not really in need to an anti-aging product but I like using them for insurance, so I can’t really say how much this helps to reverse signs of aging. I’ve also enjoyed using this mixed into my foundation.

All in all, I think everyone should go to a The Face Shop store and check these out in person. Just the cool texture is enough for me to recommend that you at least take a look at these. They’re such a versatile product – you can use them as a moisturizer, mixed with your moisturizer to boost the hydration, as a primer to help increase the glow, or even mixed in with your foundation for even more glow. For $75 it is pricey, but because you can use these in so many different ways, it’s pretty good value. Of the two, I would recommend going with the Nokyong Collagen Contour Lift Gold Capsule Cream, but if you don’t mind the shimmery bits in the White Ginseng Collagen Pearl, they’re both pretty good contenders as skincare supplements!

Go for gold – NEW Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold Firming Line from The Face Shop, featuring 24K gold and snail mucus extract!

The Face Shop Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold review

This year seems to be the year of gold because there have been so many new skincare products that feature gold as a key ingredient! New for March 2016 is The Face Shop’s Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold Firming Line (phew, what a mouthful!). This range combines the luxurious brightening properties of pure 24K gold with the powerful nourishing moisturizing properties of snail mucus, which is a popular skincare ingredient in Korea.

Snail mucus has been used for centuries in skincare, known for its healing, moisturizing, and anti-aging properties. The main components of snail mucus extract are mucin, to maintain skin moisture and improve cell regeneration; allantoin, to promote the grown of new skin tissue, relieve damaged skin and improve skin texture; collagen and elastin to maintain skin elasticity; and glycolic acid to speed up cell regeneration. This, in combination with 24K gold creates the ultimate luxurious skincare product that combines all of your skincare needs in one.

The Face Shop Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold review

The line contains five products as part of its core line:

  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Cleansing Foam (C$30) – a gentle foaming cleanser that removes impurities from the skin to leave it softer, brighter and more elastic
  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Toner (C$50) – this toner is more like a essence lotion that is ultra hydrating with high concentrations of snail mucus extract and gold
  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Serum (C$75) – a lightweight yet nourishing serum that contains high concentrations of snail mucus extract and 24K gold to plump the skin and smooth fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Cream (C$69) – a nourishing face cream that contains snail mucus, 24K gold, anti-aging macadamia oil, shea butter, and calming pathenol. It’s has the texture of a gel-cream with the power of a full-on cream
  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Eye Cream (C$75) – packed with snail mucus essence, 24K gold, and black ginseng, this eye cream helps to regenerate the sensitive eye area, improving elasticity, repairing damage, and protecting from external irritants

In addition, the range also includes three supplementary products to layer into your skincare routine as needed.

  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Emulsion (C$69) – a lightweight hydrating milk that’s great for those with oily or combination skin types, or layered lightly underneath the Hwansaenggo Escargot Cream
  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Golden Firming Gel Mask (C$8) – a gel sheet mask for the face
  • Hwansaenggo Escargot Gel Eye Mask (C$6) – a gel eye patch to help revitalize the eye area

My top three favourite products of this range, and the products that I think are complete must-haves for any skincare routine, are the Hwansaenggo Escargot TonerHwansaenggo Escargot Serum and Hwansaenggo Escargot Cream.

The Face Shop Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold review

The Hwansaenggo Escargot Toner, which is more like an essence lotion to help increase skin hydration, is an incredible fluid gel-lotion that contains real flecks of 24K gold that dissolves as you pat this into your skin. It is so lightweight yet ultra hydrating, and perfect for all skin types. Asian essence lotions are amazing and this version is nothing short of amazing either because my skin is always left with improved elasticity and suppleness. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this essence.

When you want to evaluate the efficacy of any skincare line, you always turn to the serum first and the is no Hwansaenggo Escargot Serum exception. Korean skincare is designed for layering, which is why you see so many different products in the same range, and this serum fits perfectly in with every other product in the range. It’s also very lightweight, but definitely packs a punch. I apply this right after my Escargot Toner

If you’re looking for an anti-aging cream that’s not too overly greasy then the Hwansaenggo Escargot Cream is a great option. This is more like a thicker gel-cream that works well on dry, normal, or dry-combination skin types. It absorbs extremely quickly into my skin, leaving a soft focus finish that’s not quite matte but not dewy either. It’s fantastic during the day, right before you apply your foundation. If you have oily skin, the Hwansaenggo Escargot Emulsion is probably your better pick because you get a lighter hydration effect without the thicker texture.

The Hwansaenggo Escargot Eye Cream would be my next best pick if you’ve got the budget – eye creams are a must-have in my book and this one performs very well for the price.

The Face Shop Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold review

As for the other products, they’re nice-to-haves but may not be necessary depending on your skincare needs. The only product that I didn’t have luck with was the Hwansaenggo Escargot Golden Firming Gel Mask – the gel mask was extremely thick and kept falling off my face, and there wasn’t enough serum sticking to the mask itself to allow it to adhere to my skin. This one is a dud, in my opinion. The Hwansaenggo Escargot Cleansing Foam is a nice-to-have, but you aren’t really getting much skincare benefits out of a foaming cleanser that washes off, so if you have an existing cleanser that you like, you can just stick to that. There’s no need to switch to this cleanser, unless you’re really insistent on getting the entire line.

The Face Shop Hwansaenggo Escargot Gold Firming Line is available starting March 2016 at The Face Shop locations across Canada.
