Guerlain Blanc de Perle relaunch with the Rosy Whitening Essence, Active Reviving Cleansing Foam, and the Essence in Lotion

Guerlain Blanc de Perle 2016 review

Guerlain’s Blanc de Perle line is being relaunched this Spring with revamps of the essence, cleanser and lotion. The Rosy Whitening Essence is the new and improved version of the Advanced White P.E.A.R.L. Drop Essence, which was my favourite products from the predecessor line. The Active Reviving Cleansing Foam is the updated Foaming Cleanser, and the Essence in Lotion is the improved Lotion. I’m super happy because all three products were the most memorable for me from the previous line, so I was excited to see how the new and improved versions perform in comparison.

Guerlain Blanc de Perle 2016 review

The Guerlain Blanc de Perle Rosy Whitening Essence (C$155) claims to increase radiance and promote a healthy, rosy glow. It also claims to target dark spots and sallowness, which will also help to improve overall the skin’s appearance and texture. It contains ingredients such as glycerin to hydrate, citrus unshiu peel extract as an antioxidant, ascorbyl glucoside to brighten, as well as dimethicone and polymethylsilsesquioxane which are silicones. It also contains – in smaller doses – ophiopogon japonicus root extract to hydrate, mallow extract as an antioxidant, and sophora angustifolia root extract which is an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. The texture is similar to the predecessor version in that it is lightweight with a lot of slip (due to high silicone content). This version has added glycerin as the second ingredient on the list, and the citrus unshiu peel extract near the top of the ingredients list, which make the newer Rosy Whitening Essence more hydrating than the previous version.

The Guerlain Active Reviving Cleansing Foam (C$67) claims to promote melanin elimination and cell renewal, including improve blood circulation, improve radiance, and an overall healthier complexion. The new version of this cleanser replaces the surfectants (i.e., cleansing agents) in the prior version of myristic acid and stearic acid with sodium laureth sulfate, but the beneficial ingredients such as ophiopogon japonicus root extract largely remain unchanged. The new version also adds a small amount of biotin near the bottom of the ingredients list. A big plus of this cleanser, despite that it’s $67 is that my last tube lasted me an entire year. You only need a tiny bit to activate its very powerful cleansing action, and this also works very well with cleansing brushes because of the high density foam created by its surfectants. Most cleansers last me 4-6 months and cost up to $30 a bottle, this one is $67 and lasts a whole year, so in terms of price versus value, it’s really not that bad. Lastly it does a very good job at deep cleansing without stripping, making it my perfect cleanser.

The Essence in Lotion (C$80) claims to treat and reduce dark spots, improve blood micro-circulation and skin texture, as well as tone and purify the skin to promote a brighter and more radiant complexion. This Essence in Lotion is exactly the same as the previous version, and works and feels exactly the same as well. I use this with a cotton pad as the last step of my cleansing routine and first step of my moisturizing routine. It’s very lightweight, helps with removing any leftover dirt from my face, and also prepares my skin for the brightening and moisturizing skincare products I use.

You can purchase the updated Guerlain Blanc de Perle products at Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, and other Guerlain counters as at February 1, 2016.
