Brows, brows, brows! Featuring brow products from Marcelle, Annabelle, Urban Decay, Clinique, The Face Shop, FusionBeauty, and Tweezerman

Fall 2015 is the season for bold, neatly groomed brows. There are a plethora of new brow products released on the market this season and I’m here to share some of my recent discoveries with you.

Marcelle and Annabelle

Marcelle and Annabelle fall 2015 eyebrow pencil reviews

Canadian beauty brands Marcelle, and younger sister Annabelle have released several brow products for this fall. The Marcelle Nano Eyebrow Liner (C$11.95) is a retractable micro-pencil with a spoolie on the other end. It comes in 5 new shades – Blond, Fair Ash Blond, Medium Brown, Auburn, and Dark Brown. It has a drier texture and dries down to a matte, powdery finish, and creates a natural, filled in brow. The spoolie is slightly flimsy but quite good for a drugstore brand. The Forever Sharp Eyebrow Pencil (C$11.95) is a self-sharpening waxy brow liner that’s ultra soft, waterproof and long lasting. This is probably my least favourite of all the brow products because I feel like I’m painting on my brows rather than carefully drawing them on. The tip is thicker than what I’m used to, and also because it’s so soft, it’s easy to go overboard with the colour.

From Annabelle, we have the Brow Show Brow Liner and Highlighter (C$9.95) is among one of my favourites – it’s a convenient duo-ended brow pencil and brow bone highlighter in one. It comes in light and medium shades, which covers off a good spectrum of beauty lovers. My biggest dislike about this product is how it needs to be sharpened… little lazy me hates sharpening stuff, which is why I don’t reach for this one as much as I would like to. Lastly, the Stay Sharp Long Wearing Brow Liner (C$9.95) similar to Marcelle’s Forever Sharp in that it’s a self-sharpening brow liner. The formula is similar to that of Marcelle’s as well, which is creamy and slightly waxy. If you prefer that more painted on brow look, then this is the choice for you. Unfortunately, I prefer a drier brow product formula so I wasn’t in love with this. Lastly, we have Annabelle Brow to Go Brow Shaping Kit (C$9.95, not pictured), which comes with a two complementary eyebrow powders, brow wax, pair of mini tweezers and a mini brush applicator. For those who prefer brow powder, this is a great value set that contains everything you need to create perfectly groomed brows. The tweezers and mini brush aren’t very good for everyday use (quite flimsy), so you’ll need to supply your own tools, but they’d be good if you were on the go.

Annabelle products are available for purchase at London Drugs.

Urban Decay

Urban Decay Brow Beater Microfine Brow Pencil and Brush review

Urban Decay has released two new brow products that I’ve just been loving. Brow Beater Microfine Brow Pencil and Brush (C$24) is a tiny, tiny eyebrow pencil that’s amazing for filling in those gaps with naturally drawn-in brows that mimic the look of natural hairs. It comes in an ultra slim design that’s sleek, with an accompanying spoolie brush for grooming the brows. Normally I like to go for a taupe/natural brown shade for my brow pencil, but after trying this in Dark Brown, I’m digging the sultry look that works great with a vampy lip. In addition, Brow Tamer Flexible Hold Tinted Brow Gel (C$24) is a must-have for those with unruly brows that need to be kept in their place. It comes in tinted, where you can just brush and go for those days when you’re in a hurry, or clear, where you can brush on top of a more carefully sculpted brow to set them in place. These Urban Decay brow products come in four shades – taupe, warm brown, neutral brown, and dark brown – which can be problematic if you have lighter hair and need a lighter brow colour too.

Urban Decay products are available for purchase at Sephora.

Clinique

Clinique Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse review

Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse (C$19) is a new tinted brow mousse released for fall by Clinique. Available in four shades – blonde, light brown, deep brown, and black/brown – there’s a good shade selection for the majority of beauty lovers. It’s a creamy mousse to powder type formula, setting down to a powder and essentially smudge proof. The colour I have is black/brown, which is slightly too dark for me, even with the dark sultry brow look. I probably would suit the dark brown colour better, and with the correct colour match, it’d make brow grooming a breeze because you just have to quickly brush it in and you can go – it’s a convenient all in one product! The small applicator tip also means that you can get precision application without having to worry about smudging. The one big downside is that the tube is tiny. It’s 0.07 oz, which is half the size of the Urban Decay Brow Tamer at 0.15 oz.

Clinique products are available for purchase at select Shoppers Drug Mart, The Bay, and more.

The Face Shop

The Face Shop Brow Master Eyebrow Kit review

The Face Shop’s Brow Master Eyebrow Kit is a brow powder kit that comes with a mini spoolie and a mini brush. The colour I have is 02 Gray Brown which is a cool-toned palette for those with brown or black hair. It contains an ash-brown shade and a medium brown shade, used together to create depth on your brow. For a natural brow look, the darker shade is used to fill in any gaps between hairs in the middle section of the brow (starting from about 1/4 of the way in, and ending about 1/4 of the way out), as well as to strengthen the arch. The lighter shade is used to shade in the first 1/4 and the last 1/4 of the brow, so that you don’t get a brow that looks uniformly dark, like a stripe.

The tools included in this kit, albeit small, are good quality compared to tools you get in other brow kids. The brush and spoolie are both relatively firm, and give good control over application.

FusionBeauty

I didn’t get a sample of this to try, but I learned about this at a recent press event so I wanted to share – FusionBeauty is releasing a STIMULASHFUSION Grooming + Enhancing Brow Duo (C$44). It is a dual-ended topical day and night conditioning treatment designed to stimulate eyebrow growth and nourishment, with the company claiming that it works in just 6 weeks. One side contains a night treatment serum and the other side contains a daytime treatment groomer that can also be used as a brow gel to keep hairs in place.

FusionBeauty is available at Shoppers Drug Mart, Murale and murale.ca.

Tweezerman

Tweezerman tweezer review

No article about brows is complete with a section for Tweezerman, the stylish father of brow tools. Tweezerman tweezers are my go-to, I have at least 2-3 lying around in my room, my makeup bag, at my desk at work, etc. In addition to the functionality and sharpness of the tweezers, I also love the limited edition whimsical designs that get released every season.

Tweezerman products are available at London Drugs.
