There are a new plethora of base products coming out this fall, and today I’m going to share with you new releases by Paul & Joe, Anna Sui and Stila. Together, these products create a flawless canvas for colour cosmetics going into the fall and holiday seasons!
In addition to repackaging some of its cult favourites such as the Moisturizing Foundation Primer, Paul & Joe has released a new Perfect Makeup Primer. The P&J Perfect Makeup Primer (C$42) is an all-in-one beauty staple that primes the skin, and also acting as a moisturizing serum to plump up the skin from within, and provides light coverage. There are two shades available 01 Bright Ocre and 02 Nature Ocre – I have bright ocre which is a pale nude tone, and when worn underneath my foundation, it helps to brighten up my skintone.
Paul & Joe also repackaged its Pressed Face Powder (C$35 for powder refill), now available in a matte gold case with an accompanying velvet makeup puff that’s luxurious and vintage-looking (C$10 for the case and puff). It’s available in four shades – 01 Translucent powder for all skin tones, 04 Natural Light Beige, 05 Natural Beige and 06 Healthy Sand Beige. I have 04 Natural Light Beige and it works well on my NC25 light medium skintone, providing a bit of a brightening lift.
Known for her beautiful foundation products, Anna Sui is introducing an Illuminating BB Cream (C$34) for fall. This BB cream acts as a primer and foundation while providing nourishing skincare benefits, using ingredients such as Lychee Honey Extract to add suppleness to skin, and Sweet Flag Extract to enhances circulation and warm the skin. It is available in two shades – Light Beige and Medium Beige.
The shade I have is light beige, and it’s a tinge too light for my light medium skintone – it would work better if you are fair to light instead. I swatched Medium Beige at the media preview and it looks like it’d be a better match for me, but that also means dark toned girls out there are out of luck as there are only two light shades, with the darkest to suit NC25-30 at the most. In terms of texture and wear – similar to other Japanese formula base products, the Anna Sui Illuminating BB Cream has a dewy, moist finish. Coverage is about medium and it just melts into the skin, doing an excellent job at covering redness. As promised, it’s very moisturizing and feels extremely comfortable on the skin, but the only downside to this type of formula is that it’s not very long lasting, fading away not soon after the 8 hour mark. Another thing to keep in mind is that the size of this BB Cream is very small; you don’t get the full 30mL that comes with most base makeup items, rather you only get 24mL, which is 20% less than other base products.
Lastly, but most excitedly, Stila is releasing the coolest ever base product, the Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector (C$51). The texture of this product is just incredible, like a softy putty clay. When used with the new Stila Wonder Brush (C$75), it mimics the effects of airbrushing on the skin, smoothing out fine lines and pores. The lightweight texture is oil free, and is available in five shades from fair, light, medium, tan, to deep. The shade I have is light and it’s a great match for my skintone. You can wear this alone or over foundation and it really is skin perfecting, like photoshop in a compact!
I also wanted to showcase some products from the Paul & Joe Fall 2015 Cafe Parisien collection. This is undoubtedly the cutest collection of the year, featuring the famed cat lipsticks in whimsical bird and floral print packaging. The Eye Colour I have is 097 Cafe Macchiato (C$28), which is a rich chocolate taupe with shimmer, and the Cafe Parisien lipstick I have is 093 Cafe Parisien (C$20.00 for the lipstick refill, and C$7.00 for the lipstick case), a cool-toned pink with a nude cat centre (the cat goes all the way through the lipstick!). There are also a few compact cases (C$8) with the adorable limited edition packaging available, where you can purchase refills of blush or eyeshadow from Paul & Joe’s regular collection to insert in the case. The possibilities are endless!
The lipstick is forever going into my beauty archives, my collection of beautiful and interesting beauty products released over the years because it’s just too adorable!
