Review + swatches + look: Urban Decay Eyeshadow in NEW shades Sideline, Tonic, Backfire, Riff & Beware

Urban Decay Summer 2015 Eyeshadow review

For summer 2015, Urban Decay has released several new Eyeshadow colours. I have five to share with you today. The textures of these are just amazingly soft, smooth, and applying like silk. I found that Urban Decay’s eyeshadows in their main line generally perform much better than their palettes (for example their Naked On the Run or the Vice 3 palette), which are more disappointing than stellar. Whereas I’ve been more than happy with the quality and colour payoff in in the main line. All of these swatched beautifully in just one swipe, with the exception of Sideline which was sheerer.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow sideline review

Sideline is a semi-sheer metallic, duochrome copper peach. This is the sheerest of all the summer shades I tried, it’s definitely a beautiful shade to wear as a highlight, or to pat on top of other shades to make the colours pop or create that duochrome effect. On me, this shade faded the fastest, lasting around 5-6 hours before fading significantly.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Tonic review

Tonic is a semi-opaque metallic, duochrome purple. My favourite colour of the five shown here, Tonic is a beautiful purple that just makes my brown eyes pop. It blends seamlessly with the other shadows, or can be worn on top of Backfire for a pop of duochrome. On the lids, it lasts the full eight hours and then some, creating a beautiful pop of colour in the middle of the lid, or to act as a wash of colour for a colourful eye look.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Backfire review

Backfire is an opaque shimmery, eggplant purple. This swatched super smoothly in just one swipe, and lasted more than eight hours on my lids. It is extremely pigmented, in that just one dip of the brush will create rich, intense colour. I love wearing this underneath, or to accent the Tonic shade; together they create a beautiful pop of purple on the lids, accentuating my brown eyes.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Riff review

Riff is a satin orange brown. It is super pigmented and swatches smoothly. I definitely prefer the finish of Riff as it is a satin, thus more subdued than the shimmery metallics, but still has dimension compared to the mattes.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Beware review

Beware is a warm matte brown. Even though it’s a matte shadow, the texture is so smooth, nearly creamy. Brunettes can wear this shade as an eyebrow powder, as it’s super long lasting and very pigmented.

Urban Decay Summer 2015 Eyeshadow review

The stars of the new Eyeshadows are definitely the duochrome shades Sideline and Tonic, with Backfire being favourite of mine as well. The textures of these Eyeshadows are just superb, and you can also mix and match your favourite shades to create your own palette. Overall, much love!

You can purchase Urban Decay Eyeshadows at Sephora and the Urban Decay website.

  1. I had no idea the singles perform better than those in the palettes! I always thought those were already super awesome. ;D If I were to buy UD singles, I’d love to try the Moondust line, though. Have you tried those?

Very lovely and sweet look you created! It compliments your face and style really well! ❤

I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments!
