Get Mapped – Chatting skincare and Face Mapping with Dermalogica

dermalogica face mapping

Dermalogica is one of my favourite simple skincare brands. Why simple? Because you get the good ingredients in a functional packaging that delivers what its described to deliver – no frills, add-ons, or fancy marketing. The products really work, and I know Liza swears by their skincare line too, saying it’s even better than a lot of the Sisley (i.e. very, very fancy) products she’s use. I recently touched base with Charmaine Cooper, Education Manager for Dermalogica Canada to talk skincare, in particular the benefits of the Dermalogica Face Mapping process, as well as some of her recommended products for people in their mid 20s to early 30s.

ML – Why do you feel like getting Face Mapped would be beneficial to everyone?

CC – Face Mapping  is a conversational tool that empowers the consumer to understand the root concerns behind skin conditions, as well as the prescribed solutions. It is a consumer friendly, educational tool that completely engages and educates the consumer!  Everyone’s skin undergoes a variety of changes and conditions especially throughout seasonal changes.  It is advised that consumers get Face Mapped every three months, in order to monitor skin conditions, achieve skin goals and maintain results.

ML – Do you feel like people who get Face Mapped are required to use Dermalogica products, or can they use the knowledge transferred over from the Face Mapping process into maintaining their skin in general?

CC – Face Mapping utilizes a Prescription Sheet that prescribes targeted skincare product solutions within the Dermalogica product range.  The technique itself has been developed by the International Dermal Institute, exclusively for Dermalogica, and therefore, it is recommended for the use of Dermalogica products, solely.

ML – What are your top 3 Dermalogica product recommendations for people in their mid 20s to early 30s?

CC – While in one’s mid 20’s and 30’s, the average individual experiences increased dehydration, dullness and the reality of sun damage.  Regular exfoliation is recommended to brighten skin tone and also to improve hydration levels in the skin.

  • Daily Microfoliant.  A top hero product! This is your perfect polish to treat increasing dull skin tone, while removing surface dead skin cells that begin to linger, due to oxidative stress. (ML comment – YES, I love this stuff. I think everyone should get their hands on a bottle, not just people in their 20s-30s, it’s seriously the most amazing exfoliant out there – super gentle and works on all skin types)
  • Multivitamin Power Recover Masque.  The 911 rescue masque.  Many individuals within their 20’s and 30’s experience emergencies in their skin.  Accumulated uv exposure begins to evidence itself by dulling the skin tone and removing vitality from the skin. The perfect emergency fix, is AgeSmart, Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque.  Use up to three times a week, for a minimum of 5-10 mins for great results.
  • Skin Defence Booster.  Although, accumulated UV damage begins to show up in one’s 20’s and 30’s, protecting your skin from further UV damage is paramount!  Many individuals are time compressed.  And so, the perfect, yet convenient solution, would be to add Skin Defense booster to one’s moisturizer in order to create that protective shield from daily oxidative stressors, that lead to pre-mature aging.

ML – What is a skincare step that most people seem to not do, or do wrong?

CC – Most individuals tend to skip over a Masque, or for some reason, feel that they need to have it on their skin for 20+ minutes.  But, 5- 10 minutes with a masque on can do wonders!  In fact, that is all the time it takes! It does not have to be an arduous task! Apply it on the skin weekly, while conditioning the hair (in the shower), shaving the legs, cooking dinner or putting the kids to bed!  Masquing really is the unsung hero of skincare regimens!

Thanks to Dermalogica Canada for coordinating this interview, and Charmaine Cooper for taking the time to answer my questions!

  1. These are great tips! I cannot recommend people to try Dermalogica enough. Their products are such great quality.

  2. I’ve tried a number of their products, they are loaded with irritants and very very expensive. The only ’emergency’ I’ve ever experienced with my skin was a bad sunburn! SPF is key. Love your blog but these advertisement posts are beginning to wear a bit thin. You’re capable of much better work.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments!
