Are you a contour noob? Do you want to contour like a pro? Then you MUST check out the new Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour & Highlight (C$24 each). The newest addition to the Clinique Chubby Stick family is easy contour that’s extremely foolproof, AKA your new best friend. The duo (sold separately) come in only one shade – Curvy Contour, for the contour shade, and Hefty Highlight, for the highlight colour. Curvy Contour is a matte medium hazelnut, and Hefty Highlight is a shimmery champagne.

Like the Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balms, these are creamy and super easy to blend, and take a while to dry down so you can blend blend blend for the most natural contoured look. The Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour & Highlight will give you an incredibly natural looking shadow and highlight on the sides of your face; you won’t get any of that shape, editorial-like cheekbones look, which makes them great for every day use. They’re also not too intensely pigmented, so you can start off with just one swipe and then layer your way to the level of cheekbone you want – that’s what makes it such a great beginner’s product.

There were three things that I noticed about the Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour & Highlight that you might want to be aware about. The first is that the contour shade is very warm, more of a bronzer tone than a taupe-y colour you often see pros contour with. Unfortunately, if you contour with a taupe colour too strongly, it will look ashy and make you look kind of dead, especially if you’re not used to contouring, which is why this is great for beginners. If you are looking for a more pro product, this one won’t be for you. Secondly, the colours are quite sheer, which means you will need to do some build up if you want a more intense look. Again, this is why it’s better for a daytime subtle look rather than a night time look with more sculpted cheekbones. Lastly, because it only comes in one shade, you do have to be relatively light in skin in order to use this. I’m about NC25 in skintone so it works really well for me, but if you’re NC35 or above, this probably won’t create much of a contour for you.

At the end of the day, the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour & Highlight are foolproof products and are great for the everyday consumer. As a lazy morning person myself, I don’t have the patience to stand there with a sculpting brush and my Chanel Notorious for 20 minutes trying to sculpt out the perfect cheeckbones, which is where this product comes in. Get your sculpted cheekbones for just 2 minutes here!

The Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour & Highlight is available now at Clinique counters at Sephora, select Shoppers Drug Mart, the Bay, and other places that carry Clinique.

The look

I applied Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour to the hollows of my cheeks, right beneath my cheekbone, and blended upwards towards my temples closer to my hairline; you can find the hollows of your cheeks by sucking in your cheeks and looking like a fish. I then applied the Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight to the top of my cheekbones, blended upwards in a C shape towards my temple, but closer to my eyes.

  1. Nicely done! Too bad it’s so warm-toned, though. Colours like that tend to make me look muddy. My favourite cream contour shade is Hollow by Illamasqua. For powder, I’m partial to MAC Omega.

  2. Despite it being very bronzey looking, I actually like the finished effect! It gives a lovely warmth to your skin that will be perfect for summer.

  3. Ooo so pretty and subtle on you! I like that I can see just the barest sculpt on you. I’m not into the heavy contour look – it’s so severe and difficult to get natural-looking (total opposite of your look!)
