Review + swatches + look: Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Shine Sculpting Lipstick in Empowered

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Shine in Empowered review

For Spring 2015, Estee Lauder has released a more fun, younger sister of their fan favourite Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick. The Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Shine Sculpting Lipstick (C$34) (phew, that’s a mouthful), is a series of 16 new shades designed to sculpt, hydrate, and illuminate the lips.

The colour I received was Empowered, which has lovingly been added to my arsenal of power red lipsticks. Empowered is an orange-based red (it swatches quite neutral but looks orange on my lips). The unique characteristic about the Envy Shine lipsticks is that you can apply one layer for jelly-like lipstick look that’s sheer and great for daytime, or you can layer it on for more punch in the colour. Even with heavy layering, I never felt like my lipstick was building up to be too thick on my lips, and it still felt comfortable.

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Shine review

The texture of the Envy Shine lipsticks are just wonderful – it feels like a light gel texture that’s packed full of colour but not heavy. It’s super comfortable to wear, and the wear time is quite impressive, lasting more than 8 hours with one touchup, and this includes some light drinking. At the end of the night, I removed it with cleansing oil and it was completely gone with no staining (a big issue with a lot of other red lipsticks).

The packaging itself is super sleek and chic looking. It comes in a long, navy blue tube with a gold topper that has Estee Lauder engraved in it. The case has a magnetic closure, which might be a bit dangerous if you’re leaving it in a large tote bag or something where you rummage through everything else you own, but I’ve left it in my small purse before and I haven’t noticed it opening up on its own. It’s just something to note if you’re wary of magnetic closures on lipsticks (or makeup in general).

I highly recommend you check these out. The Envy Shine lipsticks are fun to wear and come in a multitude of shades suitable for everyone. You can dress up or dress down while wearing these, which makes them super versatile and something you can keep around with you to wear during the day or intensify for the night.

The Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Shine Sculpting Lipsticks are available now at Sephora, The Bay, and anywhere else that carries Estee Lauder.
