Review: Kiehl’s Calendula Toner… 160th Anniversary Edition!

Kiehl’s Calendula Toner is one  of those “whoa” products that each brand always seem to have. I’ve been meaning to try this product since forever and finally I was offered an opportunity by Kiehl’s to try this. Calendula Toner has been handpicked since the 1960s and still contain real calendula flower petals!

They recently released this amazing toner in a special 160th Anniversary black and gold packaging instead of their usual white and honey packaging. This special edition packaging is available from now until December, so if you like it you should grab one right away! It looks super nice on the bathroom countertop.

What it claims (from Kiehls.ca): This effective toner is formulated with select herbal extracts to gently cleanse and soothe normal to oily skin types without the use of alcohol or harsh synthetic drying agents. Our Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner may be used to soothe and improve problem areas.

Price: $35USD/$49CAD for 250mL (160th Anniversary Edition), $21USD/$30CAD for 125mL (in the US you can also get a 500mL version for $62USD)

Texture/Scent: Looks and smells like honey chrysanthemum tea – light honey colour with a hint of sweetness

The good: This toner feels super refreshing on the skin and absorbs right away. It is alcohol-free, which means it works well with all skin types as it is mild. It also provides a good first-layer of hydration as a base before serums and moisturizers. I love the smell as it is very calming and perfect for before bed. I also love the limited edition packaging!

  • Refreshing, absorbs quickly
  • Mild, gentle, non-drying
  • Hydrating
  • Calming

The bad: Although I know this is it’s natural colouring, the honey tinted toner doesn’t do much to help me see if any more dirty stuff has been wiped  off my face due to this toner. Price is also a little high, but it’s supposed to be hand-picked and all natural so I’m not complaining. A paraben is number 4 on the list of ingredients, but that could also be because it is all natural and can go bad quickly.

  • Can’t tell if any more dirty stuff has been wiped off my face because of the natural colour of the toner
  • Price is a little high
  • Paraben is high on the list of ingredients

Overall: I generally like this toner. I love that it has real calendula flowers in it and if you like, you can rub the flower petals on your face for some extra oomph (not sure if it does anything more than what the toner would do though). It helps to calm my skin down and works beautifully before serums and moisturizers to help absorption. As it is alcohol free, I can easily recommend this toner to everyone.
