Review/Swatch: Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Colour N in 08 Crystal Sky

Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Colour N in 08 Crystal Sky

One of the most interesting products in the Jill Stuart Beauty lineup of products is their Jelly Eye Colour N. I purchased this in the shade 08 Crystal Sky when I was in Hong Kong last month.

What it is: Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Colour N is a light creamy pudding-like eyeshadow housed in a glass jar. The shade 08 Crystal Sky is a medium-dark purple taupe. Its not a real purple, yet it is not a real taupe. It is a gorgeous colour, yet somewhat of a pain to photograph in natural lighting because it shows up as mostly taupe, but the purple is quite evident.

Damage: $160HKD for 6 grams from Jill Stuart counter at FACESSS in Hong Kong (slightly cheaper than the ¥2200YEN price tag in Japan)

The good: Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Colour N in 08 Crystal Sky delivers shimmery (with some glitters), relatively intense colour with one swipe. The texture is very “cute” (I think thats the only right word I can find to describe it); its bouncy and light in the jar and the product transfers very easily from the container to your finger or brush. The jar itself is very well made and feels weighty; its glass with a plastic lid. Additionally, like all Jill Stuart products, it smells very nicely; the scent lingers for a little while so if you are fragrance-wary, you might want to avoid this product.

  • Intense colour with one swipe
  • Soft texture
  • Smells AMAZING
  • Well-made container

The bad: Surprising, it creases very quickly without a base when worn alone. Because it is a cream eyeshadow, I expected it to be long wearing but this was not the case at all. You would likely have to set it with powder or powder eyeshadow in order to prevent creasing. This does not apply 100% smoothly, you would have to apply it in layers in order to get the most even application. Additionally, this is a very glittery shade so there is quite a bit of fallout. Again, if you are scent-wary, you would want to avoid this product.

  • Creases quickly
  • Does not apply smoothly
  • Glitter fallout
  • Avoid if scent-wary

Overall: This is my second Jelly Eye Colour N from Jill Stuart, the first one being from last year’s Christmas coffret. I generally like the product even though it doesn’t really perform spectacularly compared to other cream shadows. I think the difference is in its texture, its such a light, bouncy texture that its so different from other cream eyeshadows. I love the smell of all Jill Stuart products so that is another plus for me. I would recommend this if you are not really looking for the top performing product, but maybe something that is a little different. I know its not the best reason to buy something, but its always nice to try something new.

  • Product: 14/20

  • Ease of Use: 3.5/5
  • Overall: 26.5/35 | 78% | B
  • Repurchase: Yes, I want this in 09 Midnight Shine and 10 Vintage Decor.

    1. Very pretty color. It’s hard to really describe the exact color, but it definitely has glimmers of silver specs in it… kind of making it look like a metal. It’s really pretty though 🙂

    2. I don’t own any of JS’s jelly shadows, but I really want to get some soon! They look super pretty! By the way, I use cream shadows as bases, to give my eye definition! Hope that helps you out! 🙂
