Uber lemmings of the month~

I have been a really good girl this year. I haven’t gone all out and splurged on makeup yet like I did last year with the Lady Dior compact ($100CAD… sigh), and I haven’t bought any clothes. Mainly because every time I shop, I have the tendency to convert everything back into Canadian dollars which means everything is super expensive. Its a bad habit and one I used to make fun of when others did it, but I can understand why. The only thing I’ve actually splurged on were on travel, like plane tickets and accommodations. Even though I’m staying at hostels everywhere, it still kind of adds up to a lot.

Even though I haven’t been buying, I sure have been lemming after stuff. Here are my faves for this month:

DiorBlush in 839 Vintage Pink from the Spring 2010 collection

After I saw swatches on Temptalia, I was instantly in love. I’ve always been a fan of Dior blushes, they’re one my favourites in terms of consistency and colour payoff. This special edition compact has a lace design etched into it, which is more than enough of a reason to quickly grab it. It was sadly sold out at Debenhams in Oxford when I went last week, but I called Selfridges today and they said they would put one on hold for me! Wheeeeeeeeee~

Dior 5-colour Eyeshadow in 743 Coquette (left) & 059 Pearl Glow (right) from Spring 2010 Collection

I had originally planned on passing both of these palettes because the colours didn’t look too appealing to me. But when I saw swatches… oh my goodness, I want want want. I think I might pass on these for now though, because each palette of 5 colours is more expensive than the entire Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows (below) that has 16 colours. Maybe after I get the BoS I’ll calm down about the Dior palettes and then just not get them at all. Or… I’ll try my luck at Heathrow in April when I leave for Beijing. I’m guessing it will likely be the latter. LOL. These are $58 USD or $60 CAD. I believe these are £40 here in the UK.

Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows

I’ve always wanted a Book of Shadows but passed on the last two versions because there was too much green in it. I can’t wear green eyeshadow so it would be pointless to get it if I can’t use 1/4 of it. I saw swatches of this on various sites and they are said that some shades have massive sparkle content and lots of fallout. I would probably 1) avoid those, or 2) use a really good base and a firm brush to make it stick. The other shades, though, are amazingly smooth and gorgeous. This is $52 USD right now and $62 CAD at Sephora. It doesn’t get released in the UK until March…

So… what do you think? Yay? Nay? Opinions please =)

[UPDATE] I got the Alice in Wonderland BoS =D The lovely Erynn ordered it for me. I just couldn’t wait until March, so I knew I had to have it now. Plus I have a feeling its going to be another one of those things that you have inflated prices for here so getting it from the US would be the best option. Thankies to Erynn~~

  1. Lol I totally do that!I always convert currency in my mind when I shop in a foreign country, but then when friends and relatives come to visit, I’m always like “stop converting!
If it’s not something you can buy in your own country, you need to just bite the bullet and get it or you’ll regret it at the airport, on the plane, and when you get home!
The Dior Pearl Glow palette is definitely calling my name, but like you, I’m waiting until I get my greedy paws on Alice xD

  2. Hi Sheila!

I convert everything too! And I always stop myself and think, “I’m going to Seattle soon, I can get it for cheaper there, and cheaper tax!” but then never go, hahaha.

I would have gone with Dior, no offense =). I just never got the hype of UD palettes. I love their 24/7 liners but their palette colors were just too out there?? for me that I never know what to do with it. Great quality though 🙂

  3. Hey Sabbiee!

I’m probably going to end up getting the Dior, LOL. I’m going to see if I can get a VAT refund for it when I leave the UK, if I can then I will prob get it this weekend, if not then I’m going to try my luck at Duty Free.

Another reason I bought this palette was because there are a lot of neutrals, and I like neutrals =D

    Thanks for your input!

  4. you’re going around europe right? I think you collect all your receipts and do the VAT thing at the airport at the end of your trip… I don’t know if that applies to the UK though, maybe just countries that use the Euro??

Last time I was there was maybe 4 years ago and I remember that we HAD to leave from Paris’ CDG airport b/c France gives the highest VAT refund, lol

I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments!
