Light up your life with Lise Watier Haute Couleur Lip Lacquers & Light Cap Nail Lacquers

Posted by Sheila on March 21, 2012

Lise Watier released two new products with this new innovation for Spring 2012 – light-up lip lacquers and nail polishes! While light up lip products aren’t that new, it was previously used on Gosh lipglosses, but these Lip Lacquers plus the light up caps together are something to be excited about. The light-up nail polishes are also something of an innovation. I was lucky enough to be sent a couple of Lip and Nail Lacquers to share with you.

Lise Watier Haute Couleur Lip Lacquer ($22.00CAD)

Housed on a long clear tube with Lise Watier’s signature gunmetal metal cap, Haute Couleur Lip Lacquer has feels weighty and luxurious in my hands. When you turn the cap, the light automatically comes on and you can apply colour using the built-in mirror on the side of the tube. The applicator is a long, flat, slanted doe-foot applicator. One coat of this is enough to get near-opacity, or two coats for nearly full opacity. The finish is a high-opacity, glossy look.

  • Rouge Catwalk is a semi-opaque neutral red with very subtle red shimmer.
  • Haute Couture is a full-cover cool mauve cream.

The formula of these Haute Couleur Lip Lacquers is thick and honey-like. It is not as sticky as a traditional lipgloss, but it is not as light as a liquid lipstick (say for example, Chanel Rouge Allure Laque). The length of the applicator does require some extra attention when applying this, which is not as effortless. The built-in mirror and light does help a lot with application though, especially in a club setting, or anywhere with lower light. All in all, I like the concept of these Lip Lacquers: they are semi-opaque to opaque, with a formula that is in between a lipstick and a gloss and a highly innovation package design. I would recommend that you take a look at these (wherever Lise Watier products are sold: Sears, London Drugs and Shoppers Drug Mart) and swatch the colours for yourself.

I LOVE these nail polishes! The light-up cap is probably the best innovation ever and I honestly think more companies should adopt this. I found that my nail polish application became much more precise and less messy compared to using a polish that didn’t have the built-in light. Lise Watier Nail Lacquer formulas are almost completely opaque with just one coat. I found it to dry relatively quickly and it applied easily without streaking. I felt that the formula is a little thick, even with a new bottle, but that might just be because of the cold climate.

  • Glamour is a this interesting brown/grey-purple with red micro-glitter. It looks quite purple in the bottle but more brown upon application
  • Euphorbia is a opaque cream purple with very subtle shimmers in the bottle but no shimmer on application (similar to how most of Dior polishes have subtle shimmer in the bottle).

The Lise Watier Light Cap Nail Lacquers wear pretty well with about 3-4 days of perfect wear and then minor chipping on the 5th day forward. I think this attributes to the thicker formula which dries harder. Even the chips that come off are thicker and harder than my usual polish chips.

Random Post: Chanel, Benefit, Guerlain & Soulstice Spa

Posted by Sheila on October 8, 2011

I fail at staying away, don’t I? Yup, I’m back at blogging regularly, just less regularly than before. Here a random post for you today, just for the sake of it.

Thank you C for the birthday present!!

Benefit was being cleared away from Holt Renfrew last month and J helped me grab a Finding Mr. Bright set.

IMG_2221

I know I’m one year late on this, but I missed out last year due to my indecisively. I finally found it on Strawberrynet after months of waiting for it to show up. I got a pretty good deal on it too =)

And Soulstice Spa is the newest nail polish range to hit Nail Polish Canada, a Vancouver-based Canadian website that sells nail polish and other nail care products. They carry some very hard-to-find products in Canada, such as Zoya (yes they have the remover!), SpaRitual and Soulstice Spa, a range of vegan nail polish.

Swatch: Jill Stuart nail polish in Planet Glaze

Posted by Sheila on June 12, 2011

Jill Stuart has one of my favourite nail polish formula. Not only does it dry relatively quickly, applies smoothly and comes in a large collection of colours (mostly pink… but still good selection!), it smells AMAZING, like the rest of the Jill Stuart makeup collection.

Planet Glaze is a navy cream base with turquoise glitter. It is not gritty like most glitter polishes, but not 100% smooth either. A top coat should be applied to minimize the gritty feeling.

In the swatch, I’m wearing two coats of Planet Glaze with one coat of Dior top coat to help the drying time (as I was running late today). Please excuse the dry cuticles…

Swatch/Thoughts: Dior Vernis in 638 Aloha… a new breed of polishes!

Posted by Sheila on June 3, 2011

Sorry for being MIA. I didn’t even realize that I hadn’t been blogging regularly like I usually do because I’ve been so busy this week. I should be free by next week so I’ll be sure to have lots of content for you.

I purchased Dior Aloha a few weeks ago. I am mesmerized by bright colours this summer, as you can see with my obsession with Mimosa. I didn’t consider buying Paradise, which is the bright pink polish, because I already have enough pinks in my stash. Orange, however, was a totally different story.

Aloha is a super bright, neon orange. It is the brightest colour in my entire stash. It looks glowing when you first put it on and stays like that for a few days. It does dull down a bit after about 4-5 days, but mainly due to the top coat rubbing away. Here is a swatch of it in natural light.

The nail polish itself is different from other polishes I’ve used in the past. It reminds me of liquid rubber in the way that it applies: somewhat thicker and slightly sticky. Because of this, it is very opaque and you can probably get away with just one coat of this. This is what it looks like in direct sunlight.

The Dior top coat is AMAZING. It dries down instantly and makes the nail polish underneath dry down completely as well. It is very thin, almost like a watery serum, but is super glossy and protects the colour and my nails really well. Because it is so thin, though, it does seem to rub away after a few days, making the colour look slightly dull. A close-up in direct sunlight, Aloha is creamy but leaning towards a jelly.

I would highly recommend you get your hands on either Aloha or Paradise, because is not only are the colours and formula unique, but the value of the duo is really good as well. Dior polishes are usually around $22-24 each, and the top coat is that much as well, but you get both for $29 in Canada, which is really good (in my books).

NOTD: Dior Vernis in 604 Silver Pearl + Other randoms of the week

Posted by Sheila on March 18, 2010

Dior released a limited edition nail polish colour in 604 Silver Pearl for Spring 2010. At first when I saw this I felt that it was somewhat unlike Dior to release such a bold, metallic colour. Even Silver Purple from Holiday 2009 wasn’t as flashy as this one.

(with flash)
Silver Pearl is a metallic silver colour. It has very good coverage and you can get it opaque in just one coat. The intensity of the colour deepens with each additional coat you apply, after one coat it is a pure metallic silver but with two coats it looks a lot darker and dirtier, like a dark gunmetal. It is still metallic and with most metallic nail colours there is the problem with streaking. I found that if I applied one thick coat instead of two thinner ones, I was able to avoid streaking, but this also means that there is more chance of getting little air bubbles stuck in the polish. With all Dior nail polishes, it applies smoothly and dries relatively quickly.
(without flash)
I really love this colour, but it would not be very suitable for everyday or office wear, sadly. Maybe if you’re going to Vegas or somewhere flashy, it would be a good match for your nighttime clubbing outfit. If you’re going to shell out around $24 for a nail polish, I would probably avoid this one and get another more wearable colour instead.
This will be the second last of the NOTDs I will be doing with Dior nail polish as I only have one more untested colour from the five that I previously purchased. I especially love the last one so keep your eyes out for when I redo my nails… likely next Thursday as I have a banquet on Friday and I’m going to Prague the same weekend =)

Now onto some random stuff that happened this week…

I finally opened the packages of snacks that Erynn sent me. They are GOOD, love those pineapple coconut balls. They’re perfect for me to nibble on when I’m up at 5 AM trying to finish a paper. Thanks Erynn!

I purchased a mini set of Jill Stuart Sugar Body Scrub and Body Milk last week from Facial Shop, it arrived super quickly on Wednesday after they just shipped it out by regular airmail on Friday. Mail is NEVER this fast in Canada, so I’m pretty amazed.

I also received the jewelry I ordered from Julu Jewelry. Thank you Steph! I ordered the Alice in Wonderland necklace and earring set in sterling silver. She also included some candy, but I devoured them right away, and some skincare samples.

The blues in the crystals are so pretty, its not something you can see through a picture.

And on Twitter you may have heard me rave about the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation. I tried it out at Boots and absolutely LOVED it, so I bought it right away. It really comparable to my current fave, the Guerlain Parure Extreme, but at about 1/4 of the the price. I’m an NC25-30 and I bought this foundation in the #53 shade.

I also got myself a Soap & Glory The Fab Pore Peel mask; it was around £3-4. I tried it out yesterday and didn’t really like it, but I’ll use it a few more times before reviewing.

Anyways, that was some randoms of my week. How was your week?
