Review: My Beauty Diary Platinum Nanocolloid Mask

Posted by Sheila on June 16, 2010

Today I bring you a review from another one of My Beauty Diary’s (MBD) Premium mask line: the Platinum Nanocolloid mask (aka Platinum Hydra Mask)

What it claims:

The good:
Like the previous MBD premium mask I reviewed, I really love the fit of this mask on my face. Although it doesn’t beat the Sexy Look mask in terms of how it stays on my face. Also similar to the Tea Peony Mask, it is dripping with easy to absorb serum that doesn’t leave any greasy or thick afterfeel. This mask is light and the serum absorbs almost instantaneously and doesn’t require too much massaging. This is very hydrating and felt really great on my skin.

The bad:

I had this on for about 40-50 minutes, which is longer than the recommended usage time, so I don’t know if that is what caused it, but this mask gave me a red spot that looks like a mini pre-mature pimple. Other than that there really isn’t a downside to this mask.

Overall:
I do recommend this to people who are looking for a quick and relaxing facial and want their skin to turn out nice and moisturized without anything left over on the surface. Although I don’t really see any whitening effect, I do see a little bit of brightening (somewhat better than the White Peony). I don’t really need any anti-aging at this moment so I’m not sure about that claim either, but overall this is a pretty good mask I do definitely like this better than their regular mask line.

My score: ❤ ❤ ❤ 1/2

Review: My Beauty Diary White Tea Peony Mask

Posted by Sheila on May 19, 2010

Sorry that I don’t have an original photograph for you. My camera ran out of battery and I might have left my charger in Hainan as I haven’t seen it since I used it there last. But instead, you get a nice Google photo! LOL.

Anyways, today’s review is My Beauty Diary Mask in the White Tea Peony flavour. This mask is a part of their Luxury Mask line which also includes White Truffle, Platinum and Camellia.

What it claims (from http://www.beautydiary.com.tw/en/): (click to enlarge)

The good:
This mask has a lot of serum, and I definitely feel that the serum in this mask is a lot thinner and not as gloppy as the serum in the regular line. The serum in this mask absorbed quicker and didn’t require as much massaging either.

Also, I was able to massage in all of the left-over serum without feeling any stickiness either. The thing that I love most about this mask is its mask material. It is a very soft and thin cotton paper that sticks extremely well to the skin. I didn’t have to worry about it separating from my skin or falling off at any time during my “facial.” I also feel that this mask is definitely cut better than the masks from the regular line.

The bad:
When I first took the mask out from the packet, I noticed that it has the tendency to drip everywhere. If you’re not fast to take off the plastic sheeting thats stuck to the cloth mask itself, then the serum will probably get all over you, which is pretty wasteful and can get a little messy.

There’s a good side and a bad side to a thin mask and the bad side is that its more prone to ripping. When I was adjusting the mask on my face for a better fit, I accidentally tore a bit of the mask near my nose. While its not a big problem, people may find it more inconvenient as they are quickly trying to take the plastic part off the mask to prevent the serum from dripping all over the place because it can be ripped more easily.

Overall:
In the end, I feel that this mask is just mediocre. I had left it on for about 40 minutes and in the end I didn’t really notice any brightening or pore-shrinking or anything extreme. I just felt that my skin felt a bit smoother and it was definitely fully hydrating from the mask. I do like it, but I just don’t like it enough, or more than the regular mask line, to warrant for the higher price tag.

I would recommend this for students or people with busier lives though, because this mask is so light that you don’t need to make an effort to keep it on your face, unlike other heavier cloth masks, which is great because you can use it when you’re studying, working (at home, of course), or doing housework.

My score: ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ 1/2

Awesome My Beauty Diary deal on Sasa!

Posted by Sheila on May 18, 2010

Are you a big My Beauty Diary fan?

Sasa now has the My Beauty Diary Treasure Hunt sets on sale for just $20 a box!

There are two versions Treasure Hunt set, one is the European Treasure Hunt and the other is the Asian Treasure Hunt. Inside each set you get a whopping 30 regular masks – 10 each of Lavender, Bulgarian White Rose and Red Wine in the European set, and 10 each of Natto, Japanese Cherry Blossom and Sake Yeast in the Asian set.

Each set also comes with two Platinum Nanocolloid Masks as well as 5mL of their new, unreleased hydrating serum.

These masks are currently selling for $11.70 for a box of 10 on Sasa, which is pretty cheap for the web as these masks to as high as $30 per box. By getting this set, you’re like getting a free box plus the two premiums masks and the serum.

If you think you might be interested, I would snatch these up immediately as 1) they will very likely sell out soon and 2) the price will be raised to around $30. I’ve noticed that with a lot of Sasa’s new releases, they put them out for the first time at a super low price and then raise them after a few people’s purchased them (It happened a few days ago with a Clinique compact foundation that was selling at $11! But then today it went up to $41, which is probably what its regularly priced at).

Of course I bought some. I got two boxes to stock up, plus some other randoms as well so I can get free shipping. Oh and if you didn’t know, they offer free shipping for purchases over $100USD.

Review: My Beauty Diary Mixed Berry Mask & more pics of Hogwarts (aka Herstmonceux Castle)!

Posted by Sheila on January 6, 2010

My skin has become really sensitive over the past few days due to travelling and trying to settle into a new country 9000 km away from home. I’ve been trying to do my best to take care of it, but sometimes it just doesn’t turn out the way you want it to. Plus the problem with my cleanser, *sigh*, just made everything worse. So I took out the My Beauty Diary Mixed Berry Mask to try and make my skin feel better.

The Mixed Berry mask is from the second generation of MBD masks and is one of the newer ones (in comparison with something like Pearl Powder). It claims to make your skintone more even in colour, as well as tighten the skin. It is advertised to be good with any skin type, but recommended for skin with uneven tones and saggy skin (lol).

The first thing I noticed when I took it out of its little packaging is the smell. It has a very fake, berry smell to it, like fruit punch. I really don’t like this smell, especially because I was feeling kind of sick and tired at the time I was using it, the scent didn’t help my feelings. It somewhat starts to go away after you leave it on long enough, but its still not something I would prefer (you can probably tell by my previous mask reviews that I’m really picky about the smell, hehe).

The second thing I noticed is what this sheet mask is slightly thinner than the previous My Beauty Diary masks that I’ve tried. The other ones from the first generation are all quite thick and heavy, but this one is more transparent and sticks a little better. I like this as I don’t have to worry about it falling off my face, or certain parts of it not sticking. However, as with all MBD masks, they are too wide for my face which is a total dislike.

(crazy mask pic)

After a good 25 minutes, I removed the mask to reveal calmer skin. My face is not as red and blotchy as before and it feels nice and hydrated. I finished off with some Biotherm Aquasource gel and it felt enough for the night. After about 10 minutes, everything seemed very nicely absorbed with no greasy residue or anything and my skin has pretty much gone back to normal with a nice glow too. I knew using a sheet mask tonight was a good choice, hehe.

Would I repurchase? YES. Just a simple mask calmed my skin down. It absorbed so easily and the splotchiness of my skin is pretty much all gone. My only problem with it is the smell… It is also quite inexpensive, priced around $3-4 for a box of 2 and $7-20 for a box of 10 (disparity due to purchase location).

My score:     I took a heart off for the smell.

Wow, I am on a roll. I’ve been doing a ton of reviews this week. They’ll be more to come too, hehe.

Here are more pictures of Herstmonceux Castle (aka Hogwarts), hehe

Looking out into the courtyard.

The corridor with all the classrooms.

Sheep!!
