Peacock eyes: smokey blue look for a night out

Posted by Sheila on May 18, 2012

I attended a good friend’s birthday dinner last weekend and I wore this look out. I haven’t done a smokey look in quite some time so since I was wearing a cobalt dress, I decided to do a blue smokey look. I used one of my favourite blue palettes: the L’Oreal Open Eyes Chrome Intensity in Aquadisiac, which was an Asia-exclusive.

I used UDPP as my primer, which I dusted the turquoise all over my eyelid as an all-over base. I applied the navy blue in my outer V and crease area, as well as on the outer half of my lower lash line. I then used a set angled eyeliner brush and applied the black as a liner, then used a pencil brush to blend it out. I used the white in my inner corner, along my tearduct and on the inner half of my lower lash line. I blended the navy blue and white on the lower lash line with a bit of the turquoise. I intensified the look by adding another layer of the turquoise and blending it in with the other shades.

On my cheeks, I used Chanel Joues Constraste in Rose Petale, a pretty rose shade. On my lips was Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Empire, a beautiful shimmer pink. My mascara with Helena Rubinstein and I also used Dollywink Liquid Liner to line my upper lash line, slightly winged out. Lastly, I used the white eyeshadow shade on my brow bone to highlight.

My base makeup for the day was Chanel Teint Innocence compact foundation with a light dusting of Chanel loose powder.

FOTD neutral eyes & fresh cheeks using Guerlain & Chanel

Posted by Sheila on March 4, 2012

This was the face I put on for my professional head shot for work. I did a neutral eye with my favourite neutral palette, Guerlain Bal de Minuit, that was slightly smoked out. I applied the peach shade as an all-over wash of colour, the taupe shade to create depth about 5mm on top of my top lashline, the dark chocolate shade to line the top lashline (and smudged out) as well as half of the lower lashline. The white highlight shade was used on the inner corners of my eyes, as well as to highlight my brow bone.

I used Chanel Joues Constraste in Rose Petale on my cheeks and Benefit High Beam to highlight. On my lips, I am using Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Empire from last holiday. My base makeup of the day was Chanel Teint Innocence cream compact.

What do you think?

London Drugs x Revlon x Almay Media Event Part 2… my outfit and makeup!

Posted by Sheila on January 16, 2012

Here are some photos of me from the London Drugs and Revlon/Almay event that took place last November (sorry these are so late…). Most of these photos aren’t mine, rather they were taken by Christine or by the photographer at the event.

My makeup for the event was simple, I used Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation in B20 for natural coverage, which was set with Chanel loose powder and then finished with Guerlain Meteorites in Perles D’or. On my eyes, I used the Dior Minaudiere in 002 Pink Golds which was gifted to me by Christine for Christmas 2010. On my cheeks, I used Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact in 09 Little Bouquet, which is a soft rose-pink. On my lips, I used Guerlain Rouge G in 06 Garance which is a very pretty rose shade.

For my outfit, I wanted something glam but utilitarian. I wore a royal blue chiffon full length skirt from Forever 21 and my beloved Talula Babaton silk blouse. The skirt is an absolute steal from F21 for just $14.50 and the quality is not bad for that price. I love the colour, as it is a very rich royal blue. For shoes I wore Jeffrey Campbell Pixie booties.

Me and Michelle

As usual, I didn’t know what I was going to do with my hair, so I just gave it a quick straighten with my trust Hana flat iron and left it at that.

Lastly, a random photo of me and chef Anthony Sedlak with me posing with his book.

Holiday party FOTD with SUQQU Blend Colour Eyeshadow in EX-04 Toukaede 唐枫 and Chanel Teint Innocence cream compact

Posted by Sheila on December 27, 2011

The coveted SUQQU Blend Colour Eyeshadow in EX-04 Toukaede was Jamilla‘s Christmas present to me, as well as her personal favourite palette. Seeing as in my mind, she is the queen of makeup, whatever she loves must be crazy good. This palette did not disappoint one bit! It was my first time ever trying SUQQU colour cosmetics and I must say these palettes are one of the best eyeshadows I have ever tried! The texture is amazingly silky and smooth, it applies perfectly and blends seamlessly. The matte white shade in this palette is THE best matte shade I have used. I usually steer away from matte shades but SUQQU does it really well. Pigmentation is bold and beautiful as well in the dark plummy burgundy shade. The peach shimmer shade is subtler and not as pigmented but the shimmer is extremely smooth. The cream shimmer shade is more glittery, but it adheres very well with no fallout and it doesn’t look overdone at all.

If you don’t know anything about SUQQU, it is very much a cosmetics brand for the mature, professional, working woman, which is why the pigmentation is not “in your face,” rather it works beautifully for the office setting. I feel that the Toukaede palette reflects that brand image perfectly I can easily create a soft office look using any combination of these shades.

I did a quick look with this palette for my firm’s holiday party. I used the matte white as an all-over base for the rest of the eyeshadow, over UDPP. I used the shimmery cream shade in the inner corner of my eyes, as well as about 1/3 of the way into my eyelid. I used the peach shade on the outer 2/3 of my eyelid, overlapping a little bit with the shimmery cream. I used the plummy burgundy shade to line the outer 1/2 of my bottom lash line, as well as my entire upper lash line. I then took the shimmer peach again, and drew over the plummy burgundy. I lined my upper lash with a thin line of Dollywink Liquid Liner and used Clinique High Impact Mascara on my lashes.

On my cheeks, I used Chanel Joues Constraste in Rose Petale and highlighted using the Jill Stuart Puffy Marshmallow palette. On my lips, I am using Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 54 Boy.

My base makeup for the day was the Chanel Teint Innocence cream compact. As the party was going to held on Grouse Mountain at a higher altitude, I wanted to make sure my makeup stayed fresh even in the colder, drier climate. The Teint Innocence compact provided just enough moisture, coverage and staying power for all the eating, laughing and dancing.

Some photos of the eye makeup in natural light:

Another FOTD with Dior Misty Mauve… this one more subtle and suitable for daytime

Posted by Sheila on December 15, 2011

IMG_3291

I used Dior Misty Mauve in a previous FOTD but I used a lot of highlight around my eyes for a more glamourous look. Today I did a more toned down and subtle look using this palette that is still somewhat smokey. While it is still rather dark in colour, my black-rimmed glasses really helped to tone down the intensity of this look.

I used Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Misty Mauve over UDPP. I used the matte mauve-purple as my all-over colour and the light shimmery mauve on the outer half of my lid. I used the dark shimmery, jewel-toned purple to line my top lashline and the outer half of my bottom lashline. I then patted very little shimmer on the inner corner of my eyes with my fingers. As usual, I used Dollywink Liquid Liner and Clinique High Impact Mascara.

On my cheeks, I used Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact in 104 Sweet Lock with no highlight. For lips, I finished off with my favourite fall lipstick, Guerlain Rouge G le Brillant in B62 Betsy. My base makeup was SUQQU Frame Fix Lasting Pact Foundation in shade 202, which seems like an okay match for me (I still need to try 003, which I think should work even better).
