Frequently Asked Questions

Who is behind Mademoiselle loves Beauty?

Me! I’m Sheila, age 20 and a business school student from the beautiful city of Vancouver. I’ve been blogging since I was 13, and I am pretty addicted to it. I try to blog at least once a day, but if you miss you and want to read more about me, you can always find me on Twitter, posting random updates throughout the day. I use pinkrose398 as my username almost everywhere, so try to search that on Google and see what you get, hehe.

When and why did you start Mademoiselle loves Beauty?

I started this blog in November of 2008 because I am a huge fan of everything beauty-related, and because I’ve been using skincare and makeup for many years, I’ve accumulated some knowledge about the products. I want to share that knowledge with people around me, so I started this blog. After I started it, I realized that there was a whole world of Beauty Blogging or just blogging in general, so it went downhill from there *kidding*. LOL.

Where do you get the products you review?
I buy most of the products I review. If I didn’t buy it, I will specify in the review itself if it was a sample I received from buying something else, or sent by a PR company for consideration.
How do you decide which products to review?
I only review products that I have used, and in the case of skincare products, used at least for a few weeks depending on what kind of product it is (eg. moisturizer – longer, cleanser – shorter). Frequently these are products I feel that the world would want to know about, for example I am not going to review something that is completely obsolete and you can’t get your hands on because what would be the point? My purpose is to give people an idea of what is good and what to look out for in the endless world of beauty products. However, some products that have worked for me may not work for you, so please exercise discretion when reading these reviews.
Do you have a specific format when doing a review?
I don’t [yet] have a specific format, but I am trying to develop one. As a reader of other blogs myself, I find it confusing sometimes when writers are inconsistent when reviewing something, but as a blogger, it is very hard to compare products that are not of the same nature. However I am working towards creating a standard format, so I thank you for your patience. I will, however, try to cover both the positives and the negatives of each product I review, unless they are just really bad for me (ie. gave me a rash or made my skin really blotchy).
Why don’t you post up FOTDs (Face of the Days) as often as other bloggers?
I am a lazy person, and I do not wear makeup everyday (I know, *gasp* right?). I prefer to spend my mornings doing other things than putting on makeup, but of course I don’t have anything against people who do wear makeup everyday because I would too, if I had more time (confused? I am too, lol). Also sometimes because I travel a lot, and move back and forth between Kingston (where I study) and Vancouver (where I live), a lot of the looks I do wear are either very similar, or the same day to day. I don’t really see the point of putting up the same look over and over again, so I don’t. If you would like to request a look though (eg. for a special occasion or using specific colours), please feel free to contact me, I will do the best to satisfy your request.
Why do you spell “colour” with a “u”?
I’m Canadian, that’s the Canadian way to spell it.
Will you do a positive review for my product if I send it to you for free?
No. I do not do sponsored posts, that is unethical and very bad *shakes head.* However, I will do an unbiased review of your product if you decide to send me something. That is usually done after I’ve tried the product and I treat it like any other product I purchase for myself.
How do I contact you if I want you to review my product?
You can e-mail me directly at pinkrose398[at]gmail[dot]com or use this form here. If you’re a reader and you want me to review a specific product or recommend a type of product, you can also contact me using that form.
I think you’re nice, can I ask you out?
Er…. sure..? Use this form here.

I don’t think I like you very much, what do I do?

Um.. you can either close this window and go do something else, or you can contact me here with your feedback (no spam please) and I will get back to you soon.
