Quick Mask Reviews: Astalift Moisturizing Mask, My Beloved One Melasleep Whitening Bio-Cellulose Mask, SUQQU Face Stretch Mask (very image heavy!)

Posted by Sheila on March 14, 2012

Some high end mask reviews for you! All of these have been fantastic, and while expensive, they were still cheaper than a facial (which they definitely were able to replicate and replace!). Thank you to Jamilla for letting me try the Astalift Moisturizing Mask and the SUQQU Face Stretch Mask!

Astalift Moisturizing Mask

  • Texture & fit: This mask came in two thick cotton cloth sheets – one for the forehead upper cheeks and nose, and one for the lower cheeks and chin. The texture of the sheets is very stretchy, which is perfect because you can stretch it upwards to get a tighter fit and to get more of a firming effect. The fit is AMAZING. Because there are no cuts in the sheets, every bit of the mask stuck to my face.
  • Serum/effect: The serum is a jelly orange substance that absorbs really well into the skin. There was enough serum in the two packs to moisturize my entire body.
  • Scent: Floral-fruity scent that is refreshing but also luxurious
  • Price: ¥6300 for 6 sheets, approximate $83CAD
  • Overall: I LOVE THIS MASK. Not only did it fit amazingly well, stayed on the entire time without much effort, the serum also absorbed quickly and it left my skin feeling super moisturized and supple. In the morning, I woke up with soft, radiant skin that would have been perfect as a canvas for make-up application. I definitely want to look into purchasing this mask but so far it is only available in Asia with very, very limited distribution.

Quick Skincare Reviews: My Scheming Bird’s Nest Collagen Mask, AmorePacific Moisture Bound Intensive Vitalizing Eye Complex

Posted by Sheila on October 23, 2011

More reviews for ya!

My Scheming Bird’s Nest Collagen Mask
  • Texture & fit: Thin paper masks that contain a ton of serum. As it is very light, it fits on my face well without falling off or peeling in certain areas.
  • Scent: Non-scented, great for those of you sensitive to fragrance!
  • Price: $16.99 for 10 pieces from Artie Beauty Cosmetics
  • Overall: This mask helps to hydrate and brighten the skin. The serums absorbs well without any residue or feeling sticky. There is a LOT of serum so you can also easily use it to moisturize your body as well. I love that this is scent free because as most masks are super scented, this mask gives those people who are more sensitive to fragrances an opportunity to use masks. Highly recommend!
AmorePacific Moisture Bound Intensive Vitalizing Eye Complex
  • Texture: Lightweight gel
  • Scent: Very faint floral scent
  • Price: $125USD for 30mL
  • Overall: This product has been a fail for me. While I loved almost all of the AmorePacific products I’ve tried in the past, this one had absolutely no effect on me. It was very comfortable applying this on my eyes as it is slightly cooling and very lightweight, but it didn’t do anything for me.

Mask reviews: Neutrogena Hydro Boost, Kuan Yuan Lian Cucumber Whitening, Silk Whitia

Posted by Sheila on March 18, 2011

Some mask reviews for you! Hopefully this is helpful in helping you make your purchasing decisions =)

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask

  • Texture & fit: Cloth mask with thousands of little holes in it, claims that the holes hold more serum and so more serum is transferred to your skin. The fit is almost perfect for my face shape. I like that the hole for the mouth is wider than the other masks I’ve tried; that makes it very comfortable to wear. Also because of the little holes, I find that this stays on my face easier than a mask with the same thickness but without holes.
  • Scent: Chemicals. Probably the first thing I noticed was that it smells all too much like my high school chemistry classroom, somewhat of a turn-off I would say.
  • Price: I received this from Evie, but from doing a bit of Google-ing, it seems to be about $4 USD per sheet. This is not available in North America.
  • Overall: I don’t really like these any more than My Beauty Diary masks, maybe even less because of the off-putting smell. Hydration level is just average and I didn’t notice any brightening or whitening. Something interesting to note is that I actually woke up with flaky skin even though everything else in my nighttime skincare regime stayed the same (it doesn’t even happen when I don’t use a mask). The design of the mask itself is interesting and if they changed the formula of the serum then I will buy again, otherwise, no thank you!

Kuan Yuan Lian Cucumber Whitening Mask

  • Texture & fit: Thin paper, reminds me of the new My Beauty Diary masks with similar fit and texture. It sticks to my skin well but the mask is a little wide for me.
  • Scent: Chemicals, but not as strong as the Neutrogena mask.
  • Price: $1.58 on Bobodave
  • Overall: Again, this reminds me a lot of the My Beauty Diary masks, especially their premium line, in terms of texture and level of hydration delivered. I didn’t notice any brightening or whitening, but the serum was light and absorbed quickly, similar to the premium line of MBD masks. The scent is still off-putting, but its not as bad as the Neutrogena. I probably won’t buy again unless they change their scent.

Silk Whitia Mineral Cation Mineral Moisture Mask

  • Texture & fit: Thick cloth, TONS of serum, fits my face shape very well and adheres well, but it was heavy, so it kept sliding downwards
  • Scent: Soft floral
  • Price: I don’t know, you can probably get this off Sasa (I got this from Evie)
  • Overall: There was a ton of serum in this mask, it probably wouldn’t dry out even if I had it on my face for 2 hours. When I took it off after about 40 minutes, I was shocked by how bright/whitened my face looked, but because Silk Whitia masks need to be washed off, after the wash my skin looked normal again. There was a good level of moisture that the mask was able to provide though. However I probably won’t buy it again because I prefer not to have to wash off the left-over serum after the mask gets taken off.

Review: My Beauty Diary Platinum Nanocolloid Mask

Posted by Sheila on June 16, 2010

Today I bring you a review from another one of My Beauty Diary’s (MBD) Premium mask line: the Platinum Nanocolloid mask (aka Platinum Hydra Mask)

What it claims:

The good:
Like the previous MBD premium mask I reviewed, I really love the fit of this mask on my face. Although it doesn’t beat the Sexy Look mask in terms of how it stays on my face. Also similar to the Tea Peony Mask, it is dripping with easy to absorb serum that doesn’t leave any greasy or thick afterfeel. This mask is light and the serum absorbs almost instantaneously and doesn’t require too much massaging. This is very hydrating and felt really great on my skin.

The bad:

I had this on for about 40-50 minutes, which is longer than the recommended usage time, so I don’t know if that is what caused it, but this mask gave me a red spot that looks like a mini pre-mature pimple. Other than that there really isn’t a downside to this mask.

Overall:
I do recommend this to people who are looking for a quick and relaxing facial and want their skin to turn out nice and moisturized without anything left over on the surface. Although I don’t really see any whitening effect, I do see a little bit of brightening (somewhat better than the White Peony). I don’t really need any anti-aging at this moment so I’m not sure about that claim either, but overall this is a pretty good mask I do definitely like this better than their regular mask line.

My score: ❤ ❤ ❤ 1/2
Availability: Sasa, your local Asian supermarket (eg. T&T)

Review: Sexy Look Ultra Whitening Mask

Posted by Sheila on June 4, 2010

Sorry I haven’t been writing reviews lately. I have been using new products, I just never got around to writing the reviews for them, and I sincerely apologize for that. I received two Sexy Look masks from Kathi of Lotus Palace for review purposes. I’ve been wanting to purchase these for a while now but I’ve been hesitant, due to the uh… unusual naming of this product brand (Sexy Look?). But Kathi offered two masks to another blogger for review so I jumped at the opportunity to be able to try this. Thank you so much, Kathi!

(The review of the firming mask will come in a few days ^___^)

What it is: Sexy Look Ultra Whitening Mask is basically a sheet mask with a “chin lift” section at the bottom that neatly tucks over your ears for a tight fit. The purpose of this “chin lift” is that you can get a tighter fit with your mask, not worry about it falling off as well have a temporary lifting or tightening effect around your chin, neck and jawline.

What it claims (from the package, translated from Chinese): It promises “moisturized, repaired, hydrated, brightened and translucent skin.” On the front of the package, it also says “Elasticity, Whiten, Double Lift.”

Ingredients: Rose water, Transexamic Acid, Potassium 4-Methoxysalicylate, Elasin, Collagen, Sodium Hyaluronate, Resveratrol, Job’s tears extract, pearl extract, glycerin tuber aestivum extract, ellagic acid extract, ginkgo biloba extract, niacinamide, xantham gum, 1,3-butylene glycol, sodium PCA, hydroxyethyl urea, propylene glycol, triethanolamine, disodium edta, phenoxyethanol, perfume, water

The good:
There is a lot of essence in the package, the paper mask is also very thin, soft and absorbed a lot of that serum. It applies really easily, although I do have to really stretch it out to get it to fit over my ears. One I did get it tucked behind my ears, though, it fits extremely well. I did had it on for about 30 minutes after washing my face with cleanser oil, foaming cleanser and then exfoliator, and then applying toner and Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel before applying this mask. The entire time I had it on, I didn’t have to adjust it or anything, it just sticks, making it perfect for housewives or people who have busier daily lives as you don’t have to “take care” of it while its on your face.

The serum absorbed quickly and left no residue or greasy feeling. Also it did make my face feel more hydrated and soft. Additionally, I do feel that my jawline is slightly lifted after 30 minutes, although this effect is most definitely temporary.

The bad:
There really isn’t a “bad” side to this mask, although it doesn’t really live up to its name of being a Whitening Mask since I didn’t notice any whitening effects at all. I didn’t see much brightening effect on my face either after 30 minutes. Also because my face is too big, the cloth kind of skips over my chin, as you can see from the picture above.

Overall:
I recommend this mask a lot for people who need that little bit of hydration during their day. Also because of its tight fit, you can actually do some work while giving yourself a mini facial without worrying about it falling off. While it didn’t really live up to its name of a “Whitening Mask,” I still feel that its a worthy investment. Plus for just $12 for 10 pieces, you really can’t go wrong.

My score: ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Availability: Sasa (under brand “Simply”) and Cosme-De
