Swatch/Review: Deborah Lippmann Stairway to Heaven from Holiday 2011

Posted by Sheila on November 14, 2011

Thanks to Nail Polish Canada, I was able to get my hands on Deborah Lippman’s Stairway to Heaven from her holiday collection. Ever since I saw photos of this polish online for the first time, I’ve been lemming it and lemming it. I have been really into jelly base nail lacquers for a while so this fits perfectly.

Stairway to Heaven has iridescent, hexagonal glitter and square cellophane pieces suspended in a milky, jelly base. Unlike “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” another one of Deborah Lippmann’s holiday offerings, Stairway to Heaven cannot be layered to get “full coverage” by glitter. The glitter isn’t sparse, but as the glitters themselves are not opaque, you will not end up with an opaque look. I applied two coats in the swatch photos.

That being said, Stairway to Heaven is absolutely perfect for layering over other polishes (as well as worn on it’s own). I tried it layered  over both dark and light colours and it looks super good over lighter polish colours such as light pinks or neutral. The colour of the glitters inside will also be changed depending on whatever you layer it over.

I prefer to wear this on it’s own. I think it is a perfect colour for holiday as it reminds me of newly fallen, glistening snow. I couldn’t stop staring at my nails when I’m wearing it.

One thing that you should note is that because of the glitter pieces, you get a rather gritty finish when it’s dried. But this is very easy to take of just by applying a thicker coat of top coat.

This is available now from Nail Polish Canada for $22 with free expedited shipping for orders over $29. I literally received my polish the next morning after they had posted it!

Swatch: Deborah Lippmann Prelude to a Kiss

Posted by Sheila on September 23, 2011

I got Deborah Lippmann Prelude to a Kiss in a gift set a few weeks ago. It is a very pale pink that is very sheer. It took four medium to thick coats to get it to this opacity on the nails and even so on some nails the nail line is still visible.

I’m pretty neutral to this nail colour. It is too light in colour to be a good “wedding” shade or office shade. It might be a good base for gradiant nails as it is close to the normal nail bed colour with just one thin coat.

Overall do not really recommend. Deborah Lippmann is known for her glitter polishes so stick to that if you were looking to buy one. Her creams are pretty normal, nothing too special so it isn’t worth the $20 or so they charge for it.
