Review/Swatches: MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks in N29 and N34

I was really excited to learn that MAKE UP FOR EVER was coming out with a new Rouge Artist lipstick called the Rouge Artist Natural because I’m totally obsessed with the creamy, sheerer lipstick trend for this year. I received two shades from them a while ago but the weather (and natural lighting) has been terrible so I never got around to swatching them until recently.

The first shade is N29, which is a sheer plummy mauve shimmery shade, and the second, N34 is a creamy blue-based pink with no shimmer. Both of these shades are sheer, but N29 is sheerer than N34, and N34 is much creamier than N29.

These apply like a dream. Because they are thinner than the original Rouge Artist Intense, they glide on very easily and my natural lip colour peeks through more, making these very wearable shades. Out of the two, I prefer N34 because it is smoother to apply and wear compared to N29, due to the fact that it does not have any shimmer. Here are some swatches:

A little bit blurred so you can see the shimmer in N29:

Here is a comparison of N34 with my Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in 38, which is a bright cream coral. You can immediately see that the Rouge Artist Intense lipstick is much more opaque and also a drier formula. Of the two formulas, I like both of them but I slightly prefer the Natural formula just because it is easier to apply.

I found that the wear is pretty mediocre, but it could also be that these are lighter colours, which usually have shorter wear time anyways. It feels creamy on my lips but not completely weightless and I felt that both colours sink a little into my lip lines. I only tried two shades so it might happens that I just got the two shades that sink into lip lines, but I would recommend that you swatch and try these on in store to find your perfect shade.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks are currently available at Sephora stores across Canada for $22 each.

On my lips:, N29 first and then N34:

  1. Hmm both colors look very natural! The N34 is probably better for summer as it’s a brighter color. I also prefer it b/c of the lack of shimmer, which can get kinda frosty looking at times.

  2. The n29 looks so christmassy in the tube!
It’s such a shame about the lipwear though, especially if you feel it settles into fine lines. I would have expected more from makeup forever
